LATE on a summer afternoon not long ago, the water at Lucy Vincent Beach on Marthas Vineyard was warm.
Can I change "at " into "on" and "on " into "in"?
If not,why?

No you can't.
The water at the beach was not on the beach. To be on the beach it would have to be out of the water, next to all the pretty girls and the Kennedy family.
If the water were on the beach it would not be a beach.
Martha's Vineyard is an island. For some reason we say, on when talking about islands. |
