Hi, there.

Look at the following sentences.

#1. On the morning of my forty-fifth birthday, my husband John informed me that I was about to take to a mystery destination.
#2. When Thomas arrived at the hotel, his feet were swollen beyond belief, because he was climbing up the mountain in such a bad weather.

There are some grammatical mistakes in these sentences.

In my opinion, #1 should be 'get [come] to a mystery destination,' and #2 should be 'he had been climbing up the mountain.'
What do you think?

I'm looking forward to your replies.

Thanks. Smile

Hi sleeper,

Other suggested alternatives:

1) On the morning of my forty-fifth birthday, my husband John informed me that I was about to be taken to a mystery destination.

2) When Thomas arrived at the hotel, his feet were swollen beyond belief, because he had been climbing up the mountain in bad weather.

Take can also mean go in some contexts - entry 92 here:

I always thought it was fairly informal though, as in 'come on, let's take'.
