Which one is correct ?

(1) The man whom I was sitting next to on the plane talked all the time.

This sentence is made up of two sentences : "The man talked all the

time." and "I was sitting next to him on the plane."

If we combine these two sentences into one by using the

'preposition + relative pronoun,' which one is correct ? If two are

possible, which one is common ?

(a) The man to whon I was sitting next on the plane talked all the time.

(b) The man next to whom I was sitting on the pllane talked all the time.

Both are possible with a little correction in each.

(a) The man whom I was sitting next to on the plane talked all the time.

(b) The man next to whom I was sitting on the plane talked all the time.

Quote:
"The man talked all the time."
"I was sitting next to him on the plane."

The relative pronoun whom joins these two simple sentences to form these complex sentences:

Quote:
(1) The man whom I was sitting next to on the plane talked all the time.
(b) The man next to whom I was sitting on the plane talked all the time.

Sentence (b) is more formal; the compound preposition next to is placed before the relative pronoun whom.
