Her dress was spotlessly clean and well made, and it was
"the kind of a" dress which the daughter of a rich family
might have worn.
Error is in "the kind of a dress," right?
It should of the kind of dress, correct? Why can't you use the way it is?

Hi BMO,
You are correct. Because the phrase is about a "kind of" dress (not the actual dress, but its type) "dress" is category and therefore uncountable.
