Dear teachers,

Is the following sentence correct?

Once you've taken it up, you'll hardly give it up.

Thank you very much in advance for your assistance.

If you're trying to say that it will be hard to give it up, that isn't the way to phrase it.

I hardly heard = I scarcely heard = I barely heard. "Hardly" doesn't mean difficult and the like.

You could re-write your sentence as: "Once you've taken it [smoking?] up, you'll have a very hard time giving it up."

Dear CP,

Thanks a lot for your answer.

I think the sentence should be more like:

Once you've taken it up, it is unlikely that you'll give it up so easily.

Because it's about taking up Nordic walking. (only slightly addictive I think)

What do you think. Would the above sentence work and would you also regard this version are more appropriate or not?

Kind regards,
Crisi
