The expression is "rub someone the wrong way."
If you rob the teacher, you take his or her belongings by force, and that would be the wrong way.
But to rub the wrong way means to irritate, to chafe, to do something that the other person doesn't like.
By the way, we DON'T have the opposite expression--to rub someone the right way. So try to remember that! _________________ You live a new life for every new language you speak. -Czech proverb |
