I could hardly understand The Day's Phrase on studioclassroom:

" All skin types can be divided and classified into two categories. "

Is it a native way of speaking,an idiom?

thanks!

It's not any kind of idiom I'm aware of. It appears to just be a statement.

I imagine the text goes on to explain what the two categories are and how you recognise them.

Some fall into one category, some fall into the other... divide just means to split something into separate groups. Maybe they're separated into 'skin types that sunburn easily' and 'skin types that don't sunburn easily' Smile

Now I'm really curious to know what the two categories are. What does the text say next, Cathy Lover?

As for dichotomizing -- dividing things into two categories -- it happens all the time. It's the easiest way to organize things.

There are two kinds of people in the world: Those who believe there are two kinds of people in the world, and those who do not.

See how easy that was?

Generally, cosmetic products distinguish between oily and dry skin.
