To anyone familiar with law terms

Could you help me finding the right words for a title:

The regulatory authority approves of the adoption. How would you write that in a title?

Something like:
Regulatory approval of the adoption????

Thank you very much in advance for your assistance.

Approves of the adoption of what? Which regulatory authority? These details make a difference.

Hello CP,

The regulatory authority = Department of Justice and Police, Office of Guardianship

agrees to the adoption of a child.

I'm looking forward to getting your reply.

Thank you in advance!

If it is the title of a news article, it might read, "Guardianship Office Agrees to Adoption" or "Dept. of Justice OK's Child's Adoption."

If it is the title of an official report, it might read:

Office of Guardianship
Dept. of Justice and Police
Agreement re Adoption of Jack Smith

If it is the title of a school paper, it might be, "Office of Guardianship Agreement for Adoption of a Child."

Hope this helps.

Dear CP,

It's an offical report that I now think should read:

Jack Smith born 17th February 2000, from Ethiopia:
Adoption agreed by the supervisory authority

Dear Sirs/Madams,

The Department of Justice and Police agrees herewith, in accordance with your application, to the adoption of the child

Jack Smith

by the

married couple X + Y

according to 265 paragraph 3 and article 422 clause 1 Swiss Civil Code)

and something else, I would like you to have a look at, (the sentences are so twist and turned in German, that it is really difficult to stick to is as far as possible):

After also having completed the minimal duration of foster care (Article 264 Swiss Civil Code), and the fact that the intended adoption is in the interest of the child, it is to be consented to.

Fee/Charge: Fr. 100.-- ......

Thank you very much for your help.

All right, Marlen, now I see the report is in the form of a letter. I would revise the letter to read thus:

Reference: Jack Smith, born 17th February 2000, in Ethiopia
Subject: Approval of Adoption by John and Mary Jones

Dear Sir or Madam: [or: To Whom it May Concern:]

In accordance with the official application, and pursuant to 265 paragraph 3 and article 422 clause 1 of the Swiss Civil Code, the Department of Justice and Police hereby approves the adoption of the child named Jack Smith, born in Ethiopia on the 17th of February 2000, by John and Mary Jones, a married couple.

The approval is based upon completion of the minimum duration of foster care (Article 264 of the Swiss Civil Code) and the fact that the intended adoption is in the interest of the child.

Yours truly,

Hello CP,

Thank you so much for your help. The thing is, I don't think that I can write the title the way you suggested it, because it's a translation from German into English and I guess I have to stick to what it says.

So, wouldn't you think that

Adoption agreed by the supervisory authority (= Dept. Justice & Police)

can be understood? - The adoptive parents are not mentioned in the title.

2. What do you call the cost of a legal paper Fee or Charge?

I'm looking forward to getting your reply.

Kind regards,
Marlen

1. I didn't realize it was a translation exercise. If you have to make an exact translation, then of course my suggestions won't help much. Still, I don't think agreement is the word you want, but rather approval. If I saw the original German I might do better.

2. Legal papers filed with the court sometimes require a filing fee. In California, you pay a filing fee when filing a lawsuit and when filing a response to the lawsuit; and other fees when filing a motion, an appeal, a writ petition, etc.

Dear CP,

Thanks for replying.

The title in German is:
Aufsichtsbehrdliche Genehmigung der Adoption

I'm looking forward to hearing from you.

Best wishes,
Marlen
