Waaaaaaaaa~~~~~~
I have been a senior high school student for two months!
I find that all the courses in the senior high school are quite different from that in the junior high school!
God!How can I go through those three years?
From my speaking, you may guess that the courses are difficult.
Yes,of course!Realy really difficult!
How to describe it?
Er...it is 20 times as difficult as that was in the junior high school!(I am sorry ,I am not sure if I said that in a right way!)
My dream is to enter a first-class college!(I love the Fu Dan University in shanghai, and I hope that one day I can be a student of it!)
I know exactly that I should work very very very very hard and then my dream may be come true!
So I use more than 11 hours to study everyday!
However,the problem is,my parents don't agree!
They said:"winky,we don't allow you to study so late everyday!Do you know you have illness?Do you know?If you still insisted doing it,you would go to the hospital soon! So,go to sleep early and get up later from now on!You always say that your courses are difficult, very difficult, very very difficult. We wonder how difficult they are on earth!"
God,god, god!I have try to persuade them, explain to them, but it didn't work!
I have no choice now, what should I do??? _________________ Winky has made many mistakes in her compositions.Sorry about that. But she has confidence in doing it better! |

Winky:
Your health is very important, and your parents seem to be worried that you are hurting yourself by studying too hard. If you get ill, you will miss school and just hurt your chances of doing well in high school, so please try to get enough rest. Remember also that if you are too tired, your study time is wasted. Better to be rested and really learn.
For some subjects, studying in groups is very helpful. Mathematics and history are easier for me to learn in discussion with others. Find a few friends to study with and see if that helps. But be sure everyone really wants to study. If it is just chit-chat, it won't help your grades much.
For me, it is effective to take notes as I read a textbook, and it is best to read the topics before they come up in class. I leave room at the right side of the page of my notes to add notes from the classroom discussion. Then studying for tests takes less time, because I can study from my notes and refer to the textbook if necessary.
Good luck! _________________ You live a new life for every new language you speak. -Czech proverb |

I can totally understand your situation, winky.
When I was a teenager, studying in some high school, as you know, we had to face the hard university entrance exam after finishing the high school, and we had to face the heavy press from parents, school, teachers, even society, that was a really hard time. however, as long as you insist and take it as a fun fight, you will overcome the hard time.
I was the first child of my parents, so they threw me too much press, they told me:"you have to get a good score of the university entrance exam, otherwise you will be starving in the future! the living is cruel and fierce!" besides, my mom even didn't allow me to apply to any literature college, she wanted me to apply to a medicine college. sigh! looking back to those hard years, thank god I finally overcame them.
Winky, don't give up! you can make it. |

Winky, your parents are concerned about your health. They probably know that you can't function well if you don't sleep enough. I'm sure they are proud of all the efforts you are making. Maybe you can review the methods you are using to study, and make sure all of them are effective. CP had some good ideas. If you can cut down just a little and still do lots of work, you will be healthier and better able to concentrate. |

Winky, I know how you feel. I dont know exactly how the Chinese University Entrance System works, but I guess its similar to the Brazilian system.
In Brazil, we have public universities (funded by the government) and private ones.
Everybody wants to study in the public universities because they are considered the best ones; they not only have the best professors, but they are also a reference when it comes to research development. Besides, theyre free you dont have to pay any tuition fee to study. So imagine how much difficult it is to enter in a public university the exams are really, really hard.
I had always been a person very much dedicated to studying. Whereas most of my colleagues at school kept saying that studying sucks, I loved it. I was what people called a nerd : I didnt study a lot because I had to, but because I liked it.
Although I wanted to be a journalist, it didnt prevent me from studying subjects like chemistry and physics -- which have no direct connection to journalism. This might give you an idea of how much I enjoyed studying....
But than the vestibular (the way we call the entrance exams in Brazil) came and my pleasure in studying was gone. It was 1999 and all I could think of was passing the exams. Just like Red Rose said, I was under a lot of pressure from parents, school, teachers, etc. Since I had always dedicated myself to studying, people thought hey, shes always reading books, its high time she showed she has learned something.
During that year, I stopped reading books and listening to music -- I gave up everything that had the slightest resemblance to entertainment. All I could think of was studying the things I was obliged to. It was like a Pavlov training; I wasnt thinking anymore. My mother began to tell me not to study so much, just like your parents are doing.
Despite all the effort, I failed the exams the first time I tried. I felt really awful. But then I decided: you know what? Ill come back to good old times. Ill study what I want, at the time I want, if I feel like studying.
It worked: in the year 2000, I passed the exams. There were 2700 applicants for 60 spaces, and I was number 20.
I was able to pass because I was calm and relaxed. I was sleeping 7 hours a day, having my meals at the right time and enjoying myself a lot. I made a lot of friends at the preparatory course and even dated one of my teachers . Of course I kept studying, but not in that maddening way. Thats what you should do! Listen to your parents! Of course you must dedicate yourself, but you shouldnt damage your health the way you're doing, cause it wont work. And if you dont pass this time, dont get crazy about it, ask for a second chance and try again.
There is a Brazilian Doctor very famous for his work as a plastic surger. His name is Ivo Pitangui. He spend 5 years trying to pass the vestibular, but despite this he became a reference is his area. _________________ Stormy Weather. |

Dear CP,your idea was really good!
Studying in groups!Well!
However, all I can say is that to study in groups is nearly a pipe dream!(At least it is true in the place where I stay!)
You may ask why?
Please allow me to explain:
I have said that I am livling in a undeveloped place! So just few of our students can enter the famous university such as Beijing University,Qinghua University,Fudan University and so on.However, the number of high students here is more than 10,000!Just see how fierce the competition is!
As Redrose said:"the living is cruel and fierce!"
Then, most of the students here would rather study himself insted of having a discussion!
So I can hardly find a student to discuss with!(Only two or three, who really treats you as her/his friend!)
I think I should learn to be pleased, two or three is OK! Agree?
Taking notes!
I quite agree with this way!It is really important for a student to take notes,no matter when.(while in class, doing homework and so on.)
Also,I can have many questions!
Sometimes my questions are really strange, unusual.First,I will choose to ask my good friends,if they can't give me the answer, then I will ask the teacher instead!(I think it also important to find questions and then slove them!) _________________ Winky has made many mistakes in her compositions.Sorry about that. But she has confidence in doing it better! |

Well,dear Redrose,you are very practical!
I am the only child of my parents,so they discipline me strictly! They have never control my study but my life!Because they think that they needn't to and all they need to do is to control my life!
So they often ask me to take more rest! However,I think I have enough rest!I have told them:"Most of my classmates or schoolmates have put much more time on study than me!So...."
But they think that their daughter was tell a lie!
Oh,no!I wasn't telling a lie,and that was the real situation!
Now they restrict me to get up at 6:30 am and go to bed at 10:20 pm everyday!
But do you know, most of the students in my school study for four classes every evening.(It means that they should go to school for the individual study from 7:00 pm to 10:40 pm.)And some of the students even go on studying after the individual study. They don't go to bed until midnight!
Because I don't get on well with my health,my parents have helped me to apply for three classes individual study instead of taking four classes!
So you see,if I receive my parents' restriction, while I am sleeping, other students are studying!
How can I get to sleep? How can I sleep well? _________________ Winky has made many mistakes in her compositions.Sorry about that. But she has confidence in doing it better! |

Well, you have said to the point!
I should acknowledge that I can't function well if I don't have enough rest!
Last week,we had a normal exam.I was afraid that I would failed,so I stuied really late every night last week!(Much later than other evenings)
I thought that I could receive it!However, that was my fault!I soon got ill!
And I got an injection the day before yesterday!
I wonder that why can't I receive it?
But other students study harded than me,how can they get on well with their body?
Or it is caused by the difficult health?
Oh,how I wish I could have a good health! _________________ Winky has made many mistakes in her compositions.Sorry about that. But she has confidence in doing it better! |

Good health includes sleeping enough, eating the right kind of food, and getting some exercise. Students who take care of themselves can think faster and do better. You just have to find a balance. Too much studying can make you sick, so you lose out in the end. We all have to learn how much sleep we need, and how we can take care of ourselves. Good luck in finding ways to balance everything! |

Not the one who learns the longest time always gets the best grades, but the one who learns the needed stuff in the shortest time.
You also need to use your brain to your best extend while learning, because only then you can understand, process and memorize the things you have learned in the shortest time.
So I suggest you not to learn too much in a row, perhaps learn half an hour, then go out and breath fresh air, drink something, and then continue your learning.
Another thing is to sleep early. Don't think, only because there are guys who learn until very late, you also have to do. Sleep is very very important and helps your brain to compute the things you learned in the day again. _________________ If I say "I love you" to someone, then I also have to say "I also love everyone else inside you, I love the whole world because of you, I also love myself inside you." -- Erich Fromm, the Art of Love |
