Do you like British pop music? For example: groups/singers like Blue, Robbie Williams, Coldplay, Oasis, Ms Dynamite, Craig David, Will Young?
Each week I put the words (lyrics) to the number 1 song in the UK, and some background notes, at this website address:
http://www.ukstudentlife.com/Britain/Music/Lyrics.htm
You can use this to study English and have fun at the same time.
The page below will tell you how you can listen to the UK chart each week on the internet, how to find lyrics on the internet, and lists some of the most famous British pop groups from the 60s until now.

I hope you enjoy it! _________________ UK Student Life: http://www.ukstudentlife.com

Actually many of the singers you mention are British, not American - it doesn't really matter, but I thought I should let you know
Robbie Williams is British - he used to be in the boy band Take That before he started his solo singing career. I like his music - he seems to be able to sing many different styles of song. Oasis are also British (from Manchester). Wonderwall is a great song, I think.
Celine Dion has a great voice, I agree. I loved the film Titanic, by the way.
My favourite singers? Well, they keep changing. At the moment my favourite male singer is Craig David - do you know him?
My favourite female singers - well I love the song "All the things she says" by the Russian singers "Tatu". It was recently number 1 here for 4 weeks. Some people think the song was a bit controversial, because it was about lesbian love. But I think it is good to have songs about all subjects and representing different views and emotions (and the girls are sexy too!)
I don't know why, but there are so many great gay singers - George Michael, Elton John, Pet Shop Boys, Culture Club, Bronski Beat, Queen's Freddie Mercury - all of these would be on my list of favourite British artists.

Personally I prefer Coldplay's first album. I like the song Trouble - it is still played a lot on the radio here, even after a couple of years. Is the group popular in Italy? I know that it is popular in Japan too.
I think it is a pity that in Britain we don't hear much music from other countries (except America) and sung in other languages (except in English).

hi!
really? I prefer the first one, too.
trouble is one of my favourite songs!
yes, here in Italy they're very famous because of the songs "yellow","trouble" but most of all thanx to their songs "in my place" and "the scientist"...
I think that in every country is difficult to hear songs from other countries, except America...but you know,I think that for Italian or German or French bands is more difficult "communicate" something with their music...well,English is the most common language in the world,so it's easier understand their message, for everyone.
I mean,English is more "international",all over the world!
and I also think that it has a sort of musicality in it...I don't know why!
what do you think about this? don't you know any stranger group?
bye bye! kisses,anna |

Hi Mark!
I'm nineteen girl and live in Japan. I like British music, especially Coldplay and Craig David. But I didn't know Craig David was British! I had thought he was American. I listen to his album when sleeping every night. My favourite song is 'Fill me in'.
By the way, do you know "BBmac"? Probably I think they're British. They were popular in Japan a few years ago.... I also liked them. |
