3.Two years pasted since the boys were washed away from Auckland.

I have known that '~ years have pasted since ~ the past verb~.' is right.
But I saw the setence #2 in a novel. So I am very confused.
I'd like to know what is correct among the above examples. If all are correct, what situation is each one used in?

Thanks.

1. Two years have passed (not pasted) since the boys were washed away from Auckland.

2. Two years had passed since the boys...etc..

But not #3.
You could say,Two years passed after the boys were washed away from Auckland.

It also doesn't sound quite right to say "washed away from Auckland. Auckland is a city and you would be more likely to say where, in Auckland, they were washed away. For example: Two years have passed since the boys were washed away from the jetty in Auckland.
