can we say "a previous engagement" for personal hanging out with someone?

if not, how can we say"I have a plan." would be all right, right?
Thanks. good day.

No matter what it is, even just sitting around with friends, if you have already committed your time to something, you can tell people that you already have plans, or you have a previous commitment, or a previous engagement. Note it is usually "plans," not "a plan," when talking about what you have already decided to do at a particular time.

Yeah, plans...
those articales and plurals are very confusing.

Ok, so I can say I have a previous commitment, a previous engagement.
and I have plans.

I just felt like engement sounds a bit formal.
but it's not you mean...

can I really master English one day?
can't, I guess.

As I don't feel like I master my own language, either....

You're a great teacher.
Thanks again.

You are right about "engagement"; it does sound a little formal, but no one will laugh if you use it. "Plans" will always work, too.

As for mastering English, you seem to be doing very well. No one expects perfection, and as long as you are trying to improve, you will improve.
