The end goal is to be a more balanced team because ultimately those are the teams that win.

Usually this refers to sports, although you could talk about a team in business the same way. If your team players are all good on offense, but not on defense, or, in some sports, if all of them are fast and none of them are big, your team is not balanced. To be the best you need a group of players who can do different things and work together to be the best. You need a balance--not just players good only in one area.
