These are my compositions for exercise. Please help me with the rationality and correctness of its expression and grammar. Your kind and hearty instruction will be appreciated very much.
Letter of Complaint
Dear Mr. Wang,
We have duly received the cotton sweaters on November 1. But much to our regret, we found some of them ruined after we unpacked.
After our enquiry, we decided that the damage was done during packing before delivery, for which the supplier are undoubtedly responsible.
Needless to say, we have suffered a lot from this, for we cant sale these damaged goods to our customers. Therefore, we have to ask you to conduct an investigation, and tackle this problem appropriately. Otherwise our long-lasting trade-partner relationships might be destroyed, which both of us cannot afford.
Best regards.
Sincerely yours
Li Ming
Letter of Invitation
Dear Mr. John Headsman,
On behalf of Students Union, I would be very pleased to invite you to be the judge of the forthcoming 2006 English Oratorical Contest, from November 13, to November 17, 2006.
You are a publicly acclaimed excellent English teacher. Your participation will be among the highlights of the contest.
We sincerely hope that you could accept our invitation. As you know, this is the 2nd anniversary of the Contest and we plan to make it a better one. We have enrolled 80 students for the primary contest, and finally we plan to choose the best 6 students as winners.
I would appreciate it very much if you could give me a reply at your earliest convenience so that the necessary arrangement can be made soon without delay. We are looking forward to your acceptance.
Sincerely yours,
Li Ming |

I suggest the following for the first letter:
Dear Mr. Wang,
On November 1, 2006 we received the 500 cotton sweaters ordered on October 15. Unfortunately, 43 of the sweaters were defective and unmerchantable.
We shall return the defective sweaters immediately and request replacement as soon as possible.
If the sweaters cannot be replaced because they are out of stock, please remit a refund of the purchase price: 43 X $10 = $430.
[Alternatively: If the sweaters cannot be replaced, we shall deduct the purchase price from the balance owing to your company: 43 X $10 = $430.]
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call or write at your earliest convenience. Thank you.
Sincerely yours
