What does not turning one's face away mean? Is it an idiom?
(context: He asks Mike Brearley, a retired cricketer, now a psychoanalyst and art enthusiast, about the similarities between greatness in sport and in art. Mr Brearley replies that both share a sense of the uncompromising, of not turning one's face away.) |

I think it is Mr. Brearley's own creativity and not an idiom. It seems to be his definition of "uncompromising." It's about not losing sight of your goal, not being deterred, that sort of thing. |
