Dear teachers,
Are the tenses in the following sentence correct?
Ashamed I crawled away, thinking that it had been the last time I would take part in such a race.
Thanks in advance for helping me. |

I would write it this way:
"Ashamed, I crawled away, thinking that it was the last time I would take part in such a race."
Since I am crawling away ashamed, it must be because I am quitting the race. It is so close in time that it really doesn't need the past perfect tense. _________________ You live a new life for every new language you speak. -Czech proverb |
