Tennis is a sport. Football is a sport. People who like these sports must refer to them in the plural, just as if they were cars or books or anything else.
In the U.K., if my information is correct, people who like to watch or participate in things like tennis and football are said to like sport, to follow sport, to be mad about sport.
In the U.S., where I live, we never say that people are mad about sport, but rather, we say we are crazy about sports. We love our sports, and we follow sports avidly. Sports are great. _________________ You live a new life for every new language you speak. -Czech proverb |
