I can give the following questions correct answers but am not sure Iwhy other choices are wrong. I would like to know the reasons firmly.
1. Arent you hungry? You ( ) ate today.
Scarcely is correct. But why is little incorrect?
2. After the festival, ( ) tourists came to the town.
Few is correct Why least is incorrect?
3. Tony seemed ( ) to my idea.
Indifferent is correct. If same or similar is put there, what does this mean? For example, Tony seemed the same to me is correct and I know the meaning of it.
4. The police arrested Joan after she made a full ( ) of her guilt.
Admission is correct. Possession or responsibility cannot be put there. Do you say make a possession or make a responsibility? There are examples in Google. What do they mean? I know take a responsibility.
5.You should ( ) your schedule before leaving home.
Check is correct. Why are assure, ensure, make sure, guarantee wrong?
Im sorry for asking too much. |

As an adverb, little is used after a verb, as in 'He talked little.'

Few is correct Why least is incorrect? |
Little, meaning 'a small amount of', is used with uncountable nouns. Least is the superlative form of little.

If you use either same or similar in the sentence, the sentence does not make sense.

Admission is correct. Possession or responsibility cannot be put there. Do you say make a possession or make a responsibility? There are examples in Google. What do they mean? I know take a responsibility. |
Take a close look at the Google examples. Are you sure it is 'make a responsibility', not 'make a responsibility' plus a noun like determination, chart, statement? The same goes with 'make a possession'.

To answer this question, you need a good dictionary. I find the Cambridge Online Dictionary very useful. http://dictionary.cambridge.org _________________ Mary W. Ng
