Hello, teachers.

Is it OK to say/write "The possibility will be reduced."?

Thank you in advance!

Well, possibility is countable like the word chance.
Would you say the chance will be reduced?
I think the key to this question is the difference between the chance/chances, possibility/possibilities and probabilities/probability.

If you are referring to one chance or one possibility and this will be reduced then I think your sentence is correct.

Thank you for your response, myprofe-san!

I'm thinking of a sentence such as "The possibility that a war breaks out will be reduced."
Is the"possibility" in this sentence a countable noun?

Regards,
Junkomama

I think that the sentence is correct with either the singular or the plural of possibility.
