pie in the sky - an unrealistic prospect of future happiness, or a misleading promise
beaten to the punch - You have a plan for a clever invention but, unfortunately when you research the idea, you find that someone else has already patented it. He has beaten you to the punch. In other words he got there first.
moot point - is a point that is undecided or debatable. In law it means a point that has no practical significance.
to stem from - to spring from or originate from. e.g. his success stems from his desire to win. |
