Hi, native teachers,
Always appreciate your kind help.
What bothers me today is how to express the following situation:
1. conductive layers A (the same material and only one reference mark is given)

2. non-conductive layers B (the same material and only one reference mark is given)

3. The above layers are layed (placed) in the following order:
conductive layer A--non-conductive layer B--conductive layer A--non-conductive layer B, and so on.

In this case, can I write in the following way?

Conductive layers A and non-conductive layers B are alternately layed on top one another? (I am afraid this expression is rather vague.)

Please help me to write a good sentence to exactly express the above situation.

Many thanks in advance.

Joseph@Shiga.

Hi Joseph,

Semiconductors are manufactured through a deposition process in which layers are deposited onto a substrate or substrates. The most common is the thin-film process.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thin-film_deposition

If that is what you're describing, I would say:

Conductive layers A and non-conductive layers B are alternately deposited on top of each other.

The process of creating alternate conductive layers are also the way capacitors are made.

However, there is nothing inherently wrong with your proposed sentence. Just change "layed" to "laid" and add "of" after "top."

Conductive layers A and non-conductive layers B are alternately laid on top of one another.
