Should we add "the" in front of "United States"?
Duck-and-cover drills are no longer held in United States schools and most fallout shelters have been closed down or abandoned. _________________ Hiromichi |

Usually, that would be written either as "in U.S. schools" or as "in American schools." For some reason, "United States" works as a noun but not as an adjective, while "U.S." and "American" work as adjectives.
You don't need any "the" in front of the adjective because you are not comparing the U.S. schools to those in Canada or somewhere else. _________________ You live a new life for every new language you speak. -Czech proverb |
