Dear Teachers,

1. You're out with your new girlfriend when you get a phone call from your ex. How do you play it cool?
- What does "play it cool" mean here?

2. What do you do when you find yourself in one of those critical situations where the conversation takes a turn for the worse? Can you talk your way through it?
- What does "talk your way through it" mean here?

Thanks a lot to Teachers,

Stevenukd

1. It means to handle the phone call in a way that doesn't get your new girlfriend upset - or worried that you're still "hung up" on your old girlfriend. Possible examples of playing it cool are: keeping the phone call short, not getting emotional, not saying anything you don't want your girlfriend to hear, etc.

2. This is very similar in nature to playing it cool. It means to handle your end of the conversation with class, with aplomb. It also means that you get to the end of the conversation without any bad feelings for either of you.
