I heard from cable TV today that some cartoon character is larger than life. Please tell me what does it mean?

I've only heard "larger than life" describing a person. To me, it's a person with a very "large" character (personality). It's a person who you would notice easily in a crowd, who is gregarious and interesting, and who earns the admiration of nearly everyone.

I did a search on the phrase and was surprised to find several different definitions. You ought to try that yourself to see the differences of opinion. Try searching on:

one lyrics of the backstreet boys' song "larger than life" is the following: (but you need some intelligence to get my point, however with bud and beancurd and all the intelligent men here that's no problem...)

Huh
Yeah, ha, ha, ha, ha
Ha, ha, ha, ha

I may run and hide
When you're screamin' my name, alright
But let me tell you now
There are prices to fame, alright
All of our time spent in flashes of light

[Chorus:]
All you people can't you see, can't you see
How your love's affecting our reality
Every time we're down
You can make it right
And that makes you larger than life

Looking at the crowd
And I see your body sway, c'mon
Wishin' I could thank you in a different way, c'mon
Cuz all of your time spent keeps us alive

[Chorus]

All of your time spent keeps us alive

[Chorus]

Yeah, every time we're down
Yeah, you can make it right
Yeah, and that's what makes you larger than life

[Chorus]
