Hi,

I was reading Death Cub for Cutie's Passenger Seat lyrics, and I didn't quite understand what it meant in the blue color. Would you please paraphrase it for me? Thanks very much for your help!!

Passenger Seat by Death Cub for Cutie

i roll the window down
and then begin to breathe in
the darkest country road
and the strong scent of evergreen
from the passenger seat as you are driving me home.

then looking upwards
i strain my eyes and try
to tell the difference between shooting stars and satellites
from the passenger seat as you are driving me home.
"do they collide?"
i ask and you smile.
with my feet on the dash
the world doesn't matter.
when you feel embarrassed then i'll be your pride
when you need directions then i'll be the guide for all time.
for all time.

dash = dashboard...that part of a car which contains the instruments, gauges, glove box, etc....

Thank you very much, Philo Kevetch. But I still feel puzzled by the lyrics. From it, the narrator is sitting on the passenger seat. How is it possible that his feet are on the dashboard since he's not a driver? Any comment?

Thanks!

The dashboard extends across the entire front of the car interior...from the drivers' side to the passenger side.

Actually, it would be rather strange (not to mention dangerous!) for the drivers' feet to be on the dashboard.

Hope that helps...if not, ask again. Philo

Hi Philo,

Thank you once again for your help. I got the picture. Still, it's a bit odd to put the feet on the dashboard while the car is moving, isn't it? Anyway, I've understood it completely now.

Have a nice weekend.

Leslie
