|
|
On Saturday, a student of mine and I were wondering about these two different ways of saying something:
1) I've only recently started wearing glasses
2) I started to wear glasses recently
Why does the first example take the present perfect tense and the second the simple past tense? In general, I can't logically conceive which is better to use with "recently" and when. |

| I'm not sure, but could #1 be used in BrE and #2 in AmE? |

Whether to use or not use perfect tense is not decided by the presence of the word "recently".
There is no need to use the perfect tense "I've". You can just say "I only recently started wearing glasses." |
