Hi everyone!
I'm having problems to undestand the real meaning of the expression "tough love".
So, let's picture this:
a friend of mine comes to talk to me very sad and depressed 'cause her boyfriend dumped her... He did it because he found out that she had cheated on him with his bestfriend a month ago. Now she's crying and asking for a suggestion. So I say to her "Well, in the first place, you shouldnt' have cheated on him. It was very low of you and blablabla...".
Did I just give her "tough love"?
Please, someone help me!
Thanks!!!!!!! |

Dear Christie, 'Tough love' usually refers to a parent implementing discipline upon a child, i.e., from an older person to a young person. But, I suppose, your example of a colleague baring a harsh truth upon another is also 'tough love'. |
