Hi all:

If my boss sent me an e-mail, how should I write to tell him/her that I've received the e-mail and understood what he/she meant?

I always wrote "Understood!!" or "Got it!!".
But it seemed strange. Does anyone express in a proper way?

Thank you all.

If your boss is okay about you sending very brief, informal emails, then 'understood' or 'got it' is fine.

You could also reply with:

'No problem.'
'I'll get onto it.'
'Leave it with me.'

If you want something a little longer and a little more formal, reply with something like:

Dear Mr. Smith,

This is just to let you know that I've received your email. Everything is clear, and I'll deal with that task right away.

You can replace 'deal with that task' with:

start that job
get onto it
sort the problem out
file those reports
fix the error

You can replace 'right away' with

at once
as soon as I have some free time
later this afternoon
immediately after lunch
before you get back tomorrow

Hope this helps,

Brian

Hi Brian:

It's really a great help, thank you!
I think I'll use 'I'll get onto it.' or 'I'll start that job.' in the future.

I think I'd tend to use "I'll get on it." instead of "I'll get onto it." Interesting!
