Dear teachers,

1) "The team decided it based on information from a qualitative overlay(reviewing plitics and economy) from their project cheif."

2) "Along with the ABC Fund Rating, a qualitative overlay based on any market information arisen since publication of the rating is used to complement the initial quantitative analysis.
"

Please tell me the meanings of "a qualitative overlay" in the above two senttences.

I hear that an "overlay" have a meaning as an "overlay strategy" in the world of finance.
Does the "overlay" in the above case have the same meaning or usage?

Please help me.
Thank you, sincerely. Crying or Very sad

Dear student teacher, 'Qualitative overlay'. Do you know that 'qualitative' is the opposite of 'quantitative', which refers to things that can be counted? 'Overlay' is something added on top of. The way I envision it is: those drawings of the human body on clear plastic sheets in anatomy books. Each sheet is an overlay of a certain aspect of our anatomy. In your 1st sentence, 'qualitative overlay' refers to the chief's review of qualitative factors. In your 2nd sentence, the term refers to augmenting a published numerical rating with a short-term verbal rating. OK? Smile

Dear Mr. Eric Thompson,

Thank you for your answer.

Well, 1) and 2) don't contain the meaning of "strategy" in this case, do they?
I had wanted to know that point.

Overlay seems abstract to me, and I am confused by that.

Thank you so much.
Regards.
