Regarding verbal communication, very often than not, I have to tell the native English speakers to repeat what they have said before I can understand them. Do I appear dumb doing it? To all native English speakers, what do you think? _________________ Robert Iglesias |

The expression is: more often than not.
Ignorance has nothing to do intelligence. The first sensation we all have when learning a second language is that the native speakers speak very quickly. It's not that they speak quickly but that, not being fluent, we can't process what they are saying that fast. In other words, we are slow listeners. We may still be focusing on individual words rather than groups of words, phrases or expressions.
If anybody is dumb in this exchange it would be the native speaker who, after being asked to repeat several times, is not capable of altering his way of speaking in order to make it easier for you to understand him. _________________ I'm never going to learn if you don't correct my mistakes! |
