To damn is to condemn to some horrible fate. If I say, "Damn you, Whatdaheck!", I'm saying I hope something bad happens to you. You also will hear, "God damn you!" That's saying, I hope God will condemn you to H e l l.

If I say, "I'll be damned!", I'm saying that I'm so surprised or upset about something, I expect to be damned.

To take for granted is to assume that something is a certain way. When Ralph gets home after a hard day of work, he takes it for granted that Alice will have supper on the table. He assumes that supper will be ready for him.

You took it for granted that someone would answer your questions, and you were right.
