| So they put out a call for anyone who might be missing a pair of trained dolphins and sure enough it turned out the two had escaped from an institute that uses them to treat autism in children. |
What does 'put out a call for' mean? And also with what words can 'put out a call for' be replaced?
Thanks. |

Hi Chan-Seung Lee,
"Put out a call" means to put out an alert - usually to others concerning an important or urgent situation. It could also mean to forewarn.
The phrase can be replaced with:
put out an alert
alerted
put out an APB (all points bulletin)
