--Yes. When you found something, you start it; you make the foundation for it.

2. I do a lot of *travel* or *travelling*?
--Usually you would say "traveling," and only one "l" in the American way, two for the British spelling. Since the accent is on the first syllable, we don't double the consonant. Traveling, labeling, kidnaping--they all have the accent on the first syllable. Excelling, expelling, napping--these all have the accent on the syllable with the doubled consonant.

3. I am going to *take personal leave* next Wednesday.
or
I am going to *take absence* from school next Wednesday.
--When you take a personal day or take leave or personal leave, you take a day off, so you are absent. I don't think people take absence.

--It would be the Web site for the X, but directions to the X.

5. Is there any term for encouraging people to pay tax?
tax promotion?
--Tax incentive is a break on taxes for doing something, like donating to charity. The encouragement to pay tax is the avoidance of time spent behind bars, or at least the avoidance of stiff monetary penalties. And the good, patriotic feeling that comes from paying through the nose, which is what motivates me.

Does *tax promotion* itself mean the *encouragement to pay tax*?

I've never heard or seen "tax promotion" outside the one or two posts here. It isn't a commn term. Where did you see it?

It is probably a term only commonly used in where I live.
My country is know for having a lot of political slogans and *non practical* promotion of social betterness.
I recently joined a short film competition to *promote tax paying*. I have been trying to explain to foreingers what that is.

How would you call it?

Miss D: "Oh, hi, Joe. I'm working on a propaganda film."

Joe: "Oh, yeah? What are you pushing / flogging / promoting?"

Miss D: "Paying taxes. Lots of people cheat on their taxes, pay too little, or don't pay them at all. If everyone paid their fair share, taxes would be lower on the average, and the government would have more money to do its work. It's a win-win!"

Joe: "Wow. I never thought of it that way. Maybe I should pay my taxes."

msdaredevil - don't pay attention to the slang because it makes the conversation more confusing.

1 - i agree with cp

2 - kidnapping has two p's

3 - you could also say "i will be absent from school on Wednseday"

4 - it would be okay if you said "this is the web site for the salsa club" or "the salsa club is on ____ web site".

5 - if you want to encourage people to pay taxes, that's the best way to say it - "pay taxes"

promotion means to promote, but not in this case - usually in USA the word promotion has to do with a job - "i got a raise today" or "i got a promotion (in pay)".

kerstin - no one addressed your question directly. tax and promotion do not go together. you can promote people to pay taxes, but it is not called a tax promotion. iitimone7
