1.A: Why don't we go on a picnic? B: That's all right.
2.A: I'm sorry I'm late. B: That's all right. |
I've made the above two examples so that I may understand the meaning of 'that's all right.' exactly.
Are the two correct? If not, can you tell me why they are not correct?
Thanks. |

| 2 sounds okay. 1 could be "All Right" or "Okay" or "Sure" |

Thanks for your kind reply.
I have one more question which is if the above is absolutely incorrect.
Please tell me.
Thanks. |

1. When B answers, "That's all right" to the suggestion, it could mean, "No, thanks."
A: "Would you like to sit here?" B: "All right" = "Okay / Yes." But: "That's all right" = "No, thanks."
A: "Should we have a picnic?" B: "All right" = "Sure / Yes." But: "That's all right" = "No, thanks."
2. When B answers, "That's all right" to an apology, it means, "Don't worry about it / No problem / It's fine."
A: "I didn't mean to spill coffee on you!" B: "That's all right" = "No problem / I don't mind / No harm done."
A: "Did I take your seat?" B: "That's all right" = "Don't worry about it, you can sit there." _________________ You live a new life for every new language you speak. -Czech proverb |
