Hi,

I couldn't find the meaning of 'trip on' when I looked up several English dictionaries.
1. What does "trip on" mean in the following paragraph?
2. Does overload mean 'load' or 'load too much'?

Thanks in advance!

One of our customers had her ABC band saw for about a month and her motor failed.she was cutting with it and the blade came to a stop, the overload was tripping on the dc driver board, the serial number for the machine is 12345.

Hello Leslie -

"tripping on" = 'turning on', activating

In your example, I think "trip" means to disconnect (break the connection in a circuit)

as in "trip a circuit breaker"...usually due to overloading the circuit (overload = too much of a load)

drawing/pulling too many amps. for the circuit design/guage of wire

and is a safety device to prevent overheating the circuit and possiblly causing a melt down or fire.
