My question is : 1 . what 's Mento? 2. point = viewpoint here?
thanks for your help !
Chandler: Look, Ross, you gotta understand, between us we haven't had a relationship that has lasted longer than a Mento. You, however have had the love of a woman for four years. Four years of closeness and sharing at the end of which she ripped your heart out, and that is why we don't do it! I don't think that was my point! |

1. A Mento (notice the capital M) is a specific brand of breath fresheners. You 'pop one in your mouth' and let it dissolve over the next several minutes to freshen your breath. So 'lasted longer than a Mento' describes a duration of no more than several minutes.
2. Well, sort of. In this context, 'point' is 'the most meaningful idea' that had just been expressed. (In this last sentence, my point was to explain the meaning of 'point.' My point was not that 'point' can have other meanings, although I hinted at that to alert you to other possibilities in other contexts.)
Zeppy, are you watching the program or reading scripts, or both? |

I see. I was just curious since you knew to capitalize Mento.
Btw, it's certainly no bother to answer your questions. I try to answer any that haven't already been answered by someone else. I enjoy the challenge, and believe it or not, I have learned a lot about how English works since I started hanging out in this forum a couple of years ago. That has helped me in my face-to-face tutoring.
Best,
