As a noun used in the context of a museum display, is there any difference in meaning between the two? Thanks in advance.

As nouns, they are interchangeable. Be aware that exhibit is also used as a verb. Exhibition is always a noun.
As a verb:
I exhibit
you exhibit
he exhibits
etc.
