Is the following sentence correct?

Since it describes how it is raining, it should be an adverb, hence, "It is raining heavily." However, you are more likely to hear:

"It's raining hard." I know, it's not an adverb, but that's what people say.

"It's raining cats and dogs."

"It's really coming down hard!"

"Hard" can be an adjective or an adverb depending on the word it modifies. It is an adverb in:

Work hard and play hard.

I tried hard.

You're being modest. English is an easy language to learn but takes more than a lifetime to master. I'm trying hard to learn the language too.

Ms. Ng,

". . . takes more than a lifetime to master." That's really what I was implying. All of us are learning the language, even if we think we know it pretty well. I welcome correction of my errors, and my thanks were sincere.
