Dear teachers,

I have a question in the sentence below.
What does "Grimm ending" mean?

I don't think it was necessarily happy, but you're right, I think I was waiting for the "Grimm" ending.

Thank you.

The Brothers Grimm were German brothers who are famous for their collections of folk and fairy tales, which were generally fairly dark and disturbing. A "Grimm" ending would be the kind you'd see in a Grimm fairy tale, where things are complicated and never work out nicely the way you'd like, no 'happy endings'.
