teaching TRANSLATION to elementary adults

Post by costales » Sun Jan 11, 2004 5:53 pm

Do you know any good site with English sample texts to be translated?

My adults are usually fond of varied topics, cultural and political ones, but they need a very low level.

Need help, please!

Hmm, I don't know quite why you'd want your low level adults to translate anything, but if you are looking for sorta controversial topics, there are a couple on-line sites that have suitable articles for adults. (I don't recommend translation however  )

Here are a couple:

Thanks for the links (and for the piece of advice!)

My students are taking an exam next summer (they're in the Spanish Army) and they're supposed to be able to translate a short paragraph.

I really hate when my students try to translate any word they face, but that's what these are asked to do. I keep on telling them "More imagination, less translation".
