A reporter for Linguistics Today went undercover to infiltrate Ministry of English Teaching and Applied Linguistics classes. Despite the shaved heads, endless bellowing between Ian Paisley-like lecturers and their students, the settling of academic scores after class in parking lots by means of baseball bats etc etc, the reporter felt that a place 'full of odd (and often obnoxious) characters' would somehow eventually achieve the excellence that all were apparently seeking. In linguistics, it seems that the loudest are the fittest to survive.

Any more silly analyses like that, lolwhites, and you'll end up looking an ass. I suggest you model yourself on the professors from Linguistics Today and treat these discussions with the seriousness that they deserve.

That's one of those "Didn't you hear my funny story the first time I told it, folks?" type posts, isn't it? Such posts normally appear when no new material is forthcoming.fluffyhamster wrote:Any more silly analyses like that, lolwhites, and you'll end up looking an ass. Actually, I might have posted a link to it in another thread too. Glad to know you thought it was indeed funny (DLP2: That's not what I was saying. DLP1: No, it's too late, that's what you said - 'my funny story' etc). Beats having the same "point" over and over from you, anyway.metal56 wrote:That's one of those "Didn't you hear my funny story the first time I told it, folks?" type posts, isn't it? Wow, I seriously underestimated you, metal. You actually do have what it takes to win a debate on Linguistics Today. Hats off!metal56 wrote:Interesting.Glad to know you thought it was indeed funny
Metal56: Fluff said "Didn't you hear my funny story the first time I told it, folks?"
Listener: Sorry, did you think it was funny, Metal.
Metal: Where did I say that?
