Dogs bark, birds chirp and bees buzz... Does anyone know sound a cricket makes?!
Cheers, Nicholas

The sounds Australian cricketers make would never get past the censor.

Those sounds are known as sledging.

Just for fun...

Note, at the bottom of the page are some links for crickets singing, so, like birds, I guess they do both. ;)

When I first saw the question, I thought that crickets "chirp" the site you listed seems to use that term more than "sing".

I think it's cicadas that "sing" more than "chirp", but I think we need the input of some Australians here who, if my general knowlege serves me right, seem to have an awful lot more of the critters than evereyone else.

When "cricket" refers to the sound of leather on willow, I think the sound is "whack", by the way :P

I guess crickets don't broadcast the temperature report, woo or fight when it's cold. This may also go for cricketers.

Australian crickets give the temp by chirping x times in 15 seconds and then adding 3.
