Methodolog dilemma

Post by h.saeed » Wed Feb 02, 2005 11:42 am

Hi all
I am conducting a research .I want to assess the need for integrating the Internet into ESP in general and then into business English in particular.I have already investigated the teaching material in some universties in Sudan. There is a need for the Net on both the orginazational level and the pedagogical level ( as many teaching materials still focus on grammar regardless of the students' future needs and the workplace expectations). But I am confused as to the methodology to be employed to investigate the whole matter.Any hint on similar studies or other source of information would be really appreciated.
Hussein.

Hi Hussein,
Have you considered using a qualitative methods such as the case study. Perhaps one advantage is that you could hightlight programs which integrate CALL and the Internet into all of their ESP offering. In the US, you could look at intensive English programs such as those at San Diego State University, the University of Pennsylvania, Harvard and Yale. I take for granted that you are trying to persuade folks with your research. Case studies can be quite interesting.
Good luck!
Kathy
