Toefl for all?

Currently i am an underpaid teacher in the midwest who would like to spend a year or more abroad. Could someone please address these questions, please,
1. If i am a certified US teacher do i need a Toefl?
2. Where is a good Place to Teach? I have heard that China is an arm it, Thailand has few jobs because thier are too many white guys who will teach cheap in order to live bad, and that the Japanese only hire cute girls. (Sorry if im offending anyone)
3. Can i make a fair living? Im making about 14.00 an hour here in the states. THat is not a fair living wage, esp. with Staford loans hanging over my credit rating like a guillatine.

You best bet on this kind of advice is in the International Forums. I can give you info on Mexico. Here you can work for the Tec de Moneterrey and make about the same money. They will often pay for your plane ticket as well. They are one of if not the best school system in Mexico. There are also interanational schools that pay well all over the world. I have to go sorry, would write more.

Dave, you may want to try Nova in Japan. This is a company that teaches English to Japanese students of all ages and you do not need TOEFL certification. Several people of all ages have been hired by this company. The salary is o.k. (appx. $30,000USD)but not fantastic at first. It improves after probation (which is 2 months) and increases as time goes by. The good thing is that you should be able to pay your bills back in the states. The company pays for your transportation to and from work. Look at www.teachinjapan.com and see if it is something you'd be interested in. Good Luck
