Difference between tramcars and Trolley cars?

Post by cftranslate » Thu Oct 13, 2005 5:32 pm

An Google image search suggests they are the same thing. However, only 'tramcars' appear in my bilingual dictionary for the Spanish word 'tranvía'.

Are they the same?

Thanks

I always thought that a tram ran on tracks while a trolley car ran on normal wheels while drawing power from lines overhead.

A trolley car runs on rails; it is also called a tram or streetcar.

A trolley bus runs on rubber wheels.
