Effective report and proposal writing course for a bank

Post by Tomton » Mon Feb 06, 2006 11:44 am

I have been asked to design a three day course on 'Effective Report and Proposal Writing' for an Arab bank.

Can anyone suggest books or information that I can use to put together such a course?

Many thanks.

Hi Tomtom,

Three days business writing... yuck!

If it was me, first I would check to see if they have an in-house format for reports and proposals; there's no point teaching a format that they can't use.

Next I would pad the course out a bit. In my experience, people ask for business writing courses when they really need general English courses. They think, my people don't have good English, they need good English to write reports, therefore, we should have a report writing course. In reality, they need to improve their English and they already know how to write reports.

At the very least, I would put in some activities, language points, sentence structure and plain English training.

As for the materials, I haven't seen one book that is solid on reports and proposals, but I would invest in a few and refer to them all.

Hope this helps, TT
