I need the immediate help of teachers

Post by Sarda » Sun Jun 04, 2006 4:16 pm

Hello Colleagues,

I am doing a study on teaching and teachers. I would highly appreciate the soonest replies from the teachers whose responses would be of high value to my study.

Please give your answers in front of the following statements from the most important (10) criteria in teaching for you to the Least important (1).

1. I enjoy teaching ............
2. I am a caring teacher ..............
3. I get tired of teaching the same thing over and over..............
4. For me teaching is just a job which should be fulfilled anyway .............
5. For me teaching is a system and mechanism of education ................
6. I want to convey new knowledge, science and ideas ...............
7. I am conservative in teaching and keep new knowledge for myself ............
8. I want to show off myself through teaching........
9. I stick to the idea of teacher authority and teacher-centered classrooms ..............
10. I believe in student autonomy and student-centered classrooms...............

Thanks for your cooperation.

Best regards,

Sarda

To be honest I doubt that any responses to your ranking will give you much workable data, firstly because your statements are worded in such a way as to virtually guarantee that some will be "ranked" higher than others. For example, pretty much every teacher I ever met considered themselves "caring" to that's bound to come near the top. Other statements in your list can't raelly be considered as "more important" than others. How can "I want to convey new knowledge (new to whom? the students?)" be considered more or less important than "I believe in student autonomy"? The second is a way by which the first might be brought about. Secondly, most of your "statements" are about beliefs, not criteria for deciding how to teach.

I suggest you ask your supervisor whether he or she thinks that your questionnaire is likely to provide you with useful information; as it stands, it seriously needs redrafting.

Hi Sarda

I agree with the comments and suggestions from lolwhites.
I looked at your list of questions yesterday and decided against answering because for me your questions aren't really rankable. Instead they seem to be basically true/false sentences. I could see no point in trying to rank something I can't honestly rank.
