The point is clear... Fluff is still demanding that no one use or teach "going to sleep" as part of the "be going to" form.

Is anybody listening though.

Where have I demanded that people not 'use or teach "going to sleep" as part of a "be going to" form'? All I've done is ponder whether a sentence that begins with a pronoun and ends in 'sleep' (i.e. is decidedly NOT part of a longer "be going to" form (construction?)) is sufficiently unambiguous to warrant inclusion in a course of finite duration. I'm not saying that ambiguity is or remains a problem in sufficiently expanded contexts (form-wise, or through explanation - perhaps long-winded - or better yet, through things actually being observed and observable in real time), but then, the JTE concerned didn't bother himself with any of this, hence my thoughts and comments.

Anyway, part of the reason these threads get so long is because you sometimes need to be reminded of some manners, is all.

Actually, 'the point' of my post there on page 5 was to sound like you (you have such a charming style of writing, a real way with words).

Maybe. The greater part is your inability to use language efficiently.

If by 'efficient' you mean scattershot, glib, and offensive, sure, I could do with taking a leaf out of your book (and I really do have to again wonder how much use you'd be to anyone other than advanced adult learners). Anyway, I'm going to bow out (gracefully?) from this here thread (I have had very limited net access for months now, so I couldn't respond much even if I found anything of value in what you yourself write).

That is the third time you have promised to bow out.

'Promised'? And 3 times now, you reckon? Wow. 8)

Well, whilst you're keeping count, be a pal and check how many times (and not just on this thread) you've presented and/or seemed to argue in favour of crap examples when the easiest (quickest) thing for all concerned might be to just find and deal in better ("stronger") examples.

For me, a primary concern is the principled selection of appropriate examples; that is perhaps a concern of yours too, but what's a bit strange to me is that in addition (or rather, somewhat in contrast), you don't seem to mind making up for "multitudes of sins" by "discussing" the hind leg off of apparently every lame example around with your potentially long-suffering students.

Hamsters = claws, wheels, and circular, going-nowhere actions, right?

'The wheel's spinning but the hamster's dead' (from the Longman Idioms Dictionary).

I wonder if the hamster died of natural causes or was killed? :o

If you separate all your posts in this thread into paragraphs, you'll probably reach the 3,000 mark all by yourself.
