Where do you get your curriculum from?
Just wondering where most schools get their curriculums from. It seems many schools hire teachers, throw some books at them, and they make up their lessons. Is this true overall? Any feedback is appreciated.
Where???
So...they throw books at teachers and have them do it??? The reason I ask is that is what happened where I have taught, both in Korea and in Thailand. Everyone I know seems to experience the same thing, which can be a burden for the teachers. I think the school owners should take more initiative and get the curriculum for the teachers.
Re: Where???
I disagree. Unless it is a small school the owner should hire a good DoS or Academic director to do it.TKS wrote:I think the school owners should take more initiative and get the curriculum for the teachers.
I don't know of any decent school that would have a teacher write the curriculum.
Again
You disagree with the way it is done right? Yes, I agree with you that the teachers should not have this responsibility. A case of real world vs. ideal world. We have developed an activities/game based program we will be licensing soon to help reduce this problem and standardize lesson planning and continuity of educaiton. That is why I ask.
I have a simple answer to where you get curriculums from... you write them yourself. IMHO, someone who runs a private English school should be able to put together a curriculum for teachers to follow based on a textbook series or test or whatever.
If they cannot do that, I would not want to work for them.

Curriculum in Malaysia
In Malaysia, the Curriculum Division, Ministry of Education sets the curriculum and distributes it to the schools. Schools are allowed to "enhance" it though.
