Need ideas for an English-themed festival booth

Post by Imanaznguy » Thu Oct 23, 2008 1:03 am

Hi, I'm a new teaching assistant at an all-boy middle school, but that's not really the important part. One of my co-teachers and I have been assigned to work at an "English booth" at a English festival, which is being held at a nearby Elementary school. I have no prior experience teaching young children at an Elementary school level, so I wanted to know what appropriate level of English I should be using for these kids. Basic vocabulary, right?

This booth will consist of twenty pictures of items that share a similar theme and it's our job to explain what they are to the children. I'd also appreciate it if you could recommend some themes that would capture these little kids' interests. I was initially thinking of sharing some aspects of American culture with them, but I'm kind of stumped as to figuring out what part of American culture would be interesting AND simple enough for them to understand.
